BRUTALISM TÊTE-À-TÊTE FOR TWO ON WOODEN TRAY „HEATHER“ DOVERSTONE & FÜRSTENBERG.
Brutalist. Elegant for two. Clear. Expressive. Timeless.
At its core is a ceramic service by Doverstone Staffordshire, a traditional English manufacturer from Staffordshire known for durable, everyday ceramics with a strong and disciplined design language. “Made in England”, in the “Heather” decor. The forms are reduced and powerful. Clean cylinders. Simple proportions. The objects feel almost architectural, carrying visible weight and a calm, grounded stability. The matte glaze in deep brown and cream appears raw, earthy, and unrefined. Its surface recalls salt-glazed ceramics, where salt introduced during firing chemically transforms the surface, creating a lively, subtly irregular skin. This tension between control and chance reinforces the brutalist character of the set. Form and function merge completely. No ornament, no distraction only structure, mass, and material. The ensemble is complemented by a small accent plate from Porzellanmanufaktur Fürstenberg featuring a motif of blue rock salt. This rare mineral originates from the Kaliwerk Adolfsglück and appears only occasionally in such an intense blue hue a geological phenomenon that feels cool, crystalline, and graphically precise.
The Fürstenberg "Made in Germany" manufactory represents a very different tradition: highly refined, precise porcelain, technically controlled and visually pure. This contrast creates the dialogue within the set raw, material-driven ceramics meeting the disciplined perfection of porcelain. The ensemble is presented on a solid wooden tray with handles. Warm, natural, and weighty like a grounded base for the objects. The result feels like a small architectural composition: quiet, focused, sculptural.
