EXQUISITE ANTIQUE WARDROBE SET BY TIFFANY & CO. AND WALKER & HALL 1900s.This fine, two piece ensemble from the early 20th century Edwardian era combines American and British silversmithing in a very distinctive way. It is a so called "composite set" or "marriage set". In the world of antiques, this means that two fine items from different makers and entirely different design eras were combined over the decades to form a functional set.
The most valuable element of the ensemble is a large clothes brush made of the finest 925 sterling silver by the world-famous New York luxury manufacturer Tiffany & Co. The elegantly octagonal-faceted back of the brush captivates with its timeless, geometric design language, which already hints at the upcoming Art Deco style. It bears the distinct original manufacturer's hallmarks, including pattern number 17454 (design year 1909), as well as the date letter "M" from the presidency era of John C. Moore II. The dense bristle structure is wonderfully preserved and is perfectly suited for the gentle care of fine fabrics.
In delightful stylistic contrast to this sleek elegance is a splendid shoehorn by the renowned traditional British manufacturer Walker & Hall from Sheffield, England. Its sterling silver handle features detailed, playful repoussé metalwork in the baroque Neo-Rococo style, showcasing the classic motif of winged cherub heads ("Reynolds Angels") nestled amidst lush floral ornaments. For the necessary stability during use, the original blade is crafted from robust, polished steel.
Both pieces are in honest, age-appropriate vintage condition with their original silver patina. The historical signs of wear, such as minor dents and fine hairline cracks in the silver, emphasize the authentic antique character of this unique ensemble and tell the fascinating story of two noble individual pieces that found each other over generations
